A California-based anti-drone firm protected the world’s most prominent economic forum for the second year in the row, partnering with local police to mitigate possible rogue UAV flights.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Dedrone, a software security company that specializes in airspace security, deployed its anti-drone equipment to guard the 2018 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland from potential airborne threats.
Last year, the company deployed the Drone Tracker system to monitor airspace along with other drone-mitigation companies.
Dedrone CEO Joerg Lamprecht explains:
“The [meeting] is headlined by the world’s most compelling politicians, scientists, and leaders, who have security teams dedicated to every aspect of their travel. The police of the Canton of Graubünden recognize the risks that drones pose, and for the second year in a row, have relied on Dedrone’s technology to protect their airspace.”
The company’s software platform detects aerial intrusions, provides early warning of rogue drone flights and is used to protect data centers, prisons, airports and other critical facilities from, corporate espionage, smuggling, terrorism and hacking.
In 2016, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department hired DeDrone to provide both drone detection and counter-drone solutions during a presidential debate between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
“With Dedrone, we have found a completely reliable and innovative partner who complements our protective measures in the area of drone defense with their technology,” a Graubünden Canton Police spokesperson said.
The company’s string of successes has made the VC world take notice. In 2017, the company secured $15 million in Series B funding round led by Felicis Ventures and by John Chambers, Executive Chairman of Cisco, who personally invested in the company.
A few months ago, Dedrone released its “next generation software upgrade,” DroneTracker 3 which includes automated summary reporting for instant diagnosis of drone airspace activity. The upgrade includes:
- Automated summary reporting, enabling security personnel to instantaneously assess and analyze drone threats
- Enterprise-grade security and management, allowing for multi-user management and seamless integration into existing security programs
- Increased simplification of platform set up, creating an intuitive and quick-to-deploy system.
