While speakers, technology demonstrations and exhibitors crowd the show floor, some critical discussions shaping the future of drones in Europe will take place at Amsterdam Drone Week and the EASA High Level Conference on Drones, held this year on December 4 – 6.
Amsterdam Drone Week is an important event for the global drone industry. For these few days, thought leaders from regulatory agencies, city governments, industry and drone service providers come together to exchange ideas – and make critical decisions for the future of drone applications, from urban air mobility to aerial photography.
Drone regulations in Europe have made significant progress this year. New rules were published in June of this year, and operators will have one year to comply with new regulations – while member states put together registration systems and other infrastructure to support them. Discussions about how to implement the regulations, privacy concerns, and future rules to accommodate more complex operations will be held during Day 1 of the EASA High Level Conference on Drones – and on the floor of Amsterdam Drone Week, as sessions address the business value of commercial drones, unmanned traffic management, urban air mobility and more.
U-Space – Europe’s unmanned air traffic management framework, for the integration of drones into the airspace – will be another hot topic this year. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is preparing to make a proposal to the European Commission for high-level regulation on U-space to enable complex drone operations with a high degree of automation. On day 2 of the EASA High Level Conference, technical, regulatory and operational issues with U-Space and UAS integration will be presented – and stakeholders will have the opportunity to discuss next steps and priorities for U-Space development.
For all ranges of the European and global drone industry, from small drone service providers concerned about new and future regulations to city planners exploring new methods for traffic management and public transport, Amsterdam Drone Week and the EASA High Level Conference on Drones provides a unique opportunity to be part of the conversation that forms the industry.
