Drone Film Festival ANZ Begins Tour of Australia & New Zealand

Drone Film Festivals are becoming increasingly popular these days. And it’s easy to see why: more people are flying and recording video than ever before. And in turn all of those inspirational clips are getting more pilots involved in the hobby. Now, drone fans down under are the latest to have a drone show touring on their patch. Drone Film Festival ANZ (DFFANZ) will be stopping in eleven cities across Australia and New Zealand.

The Drone Film Festival will be showing in Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide, Brisbane, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington from September 24th to November 2nd. 36 unique short films from around the world will be showcased at each event, with footage from professionals and amateurs alike.

An international jury will be mulling over the entrants and awarding the winners in a number of different categories. The best drone filmmakers stand to win some pretty good prizes, too. These include a DJI Mavic Pro, a trip to Bangkok and plenty of advanced camera equipment.

Showing off aerial creativity

A DFFANZ statement on the eve of the festival reads:

Today we use drones in a form of art meets film and everything in between. They have come a long way in technology advancement, usage, access… and availability has opened the skies to creative minds from around the globe.

That’s certainly true. The growing popularity of aerial photography explains how festivals such as this are beginning to attract some of the industry’s biggest names. Among the festival’s sponsors is SanDisk, for example. As long as the work exhibited continues to be highly creative, unique and often thought-provoking, more big names will start to get involved in the coming years.

If you’re interested in getting your drone fix in Australia or New Zealand, you can apply for tickets here. There’s popcorn, too.
