Friday evening marked the final round of the 2017 Drone Racing League / Allianz World Championship, which aired on ESPN. DRL pilots face a daunting course at the iconic Alexandra Palace, hitting speeds of more than 80 MPH and navigating razor sharp turns and the first ever FPV Power Loop, a series of light gates stretching across 180 degrees and forcing the drones into an inverted dive at full speed.
“The 2017 DRL Allianz season has been incredible, featuring the world’s best drone pilots and the craziest, three dimensional race courses ever created,” said DRL Founder and CEO Nicholas Horbaczewski, “The talent of the pilots and competition continues to improve every race, and we can’t wait to deliver the London Championship to our growing fan base around the world.”
Jordan “JET” Temkin took home his 2nd big win and was named the 2017 best drone pilot in the world. JET took home the win at last years DRL 2016 World Championship, making him the first ever back to back world champion drone pilot. He shared his win in an Instagram post saying:
I DID IT GUYS!!! That’s two time DRL World Champion!!!! That’s @gab707_fpv and @wildwilly_fpv at my side for 2nd and 3rd. I want to thank everyone who helps put this season together. Especially all the people in the background that nobody ever sees. The techops, the core DRL team and of course all the incredibly talented camera men and women who capture this whole spectacle. And lastly the fans. We wouldn’t all be where we are if there weren’t people to root us on. Let’s continue pushing this sport to the next next level!
He has been flying for about 3 years and possesses a unique blend of highly consistent flying and careful racing strategy.
Congratulations JET! Hard work pays off and we look forward to seeing what this next year holds for you!
