Swiss drone manufacturer Wingtra is teaming up with distributor RDO Equipment to roll out a certified repair center servicing the company’s vertical-takeoff-and-landing drone solutions.
The certification program will reduce downtown for Wingtra’s survey drones within RDO’s domestic coverage area across the American Upper Midwest, Pacific Northwest, and Southwest. RDO will also provide strategic warehousing service within those regions.
“This is a monumental step in our joint efforts to not only deliver the best professional VTOL surveying drone available, but to also provide our customers with unbeatable long-term support,” said Scott McTavish, North American Sales Manager at Wingtra.

In 2017, Wingtra joined forces with Kentucky-based Precision Capture, a company that provides 2D and 3D data capture, measurement and imagery solutions. That same year, the company entered into a similar partnership with photogrammetry giant Pix4D.
Swiss engineering firm Cavigelli Ingeniuere AG hired Wingtra to map Lumnezia, a Swiss Alpine valley, to prepare for a major wind turbine construction project. The project calls for construction of 20 wind turbines, producing 60 GWh of power for 15,000 households
Last year, Wingtra launched the WingtraOne PPK (Post-Processed Kinematics) model. Working with photogrammetry software provider Pix4D and PPK provider Septentrio, Wingtra can provide orthomosaics mapping and 3D models with accuracy down to .4 inches.
Several industry sectors – mining, construction, surveying and telecommunications – rely on aerial mapping and 3D modeling to diagnose problem areas or survey terrain for the expansion of new projects. Drones like the WingtraOne provides a cheaper and safer option over manned flight.
The WingtraOne takes off and lands vertically like a multirotor drone but can fly like a fixed-wing airplane with a flight time of up to 55 minutes covering anywhere between 280 and 400 hectares – the same area as 570 football fields.
